A look into Beer Goggles in the Down and Dirty anthology

~ Blurb ~

* Connor Callahan did his best work when it came to beer and babes. As long as live was full of laughs, he was good. It wasn’t until some hot shot journalist started asking questions that his past that he’d tried so hard to forget came back to haunt him.
* Allison Drake, top notch reporter was bumped down to do a fun and leisure piece about a bar and new up and coming brew master. She was going to do everything in her power to hurry things along and go back to the big city where she belonged.
* However, a car accident, and a few beers later, things change between them. Things aren’t always as black and white as they were before. Can the two of them face the truth about themselves, and be open to the future, or will they both live life with their beer goggles on?

~ Excerpt ~

* Allison had one job to do, and it seemed she had gotten everything she needed for the story, and then some. Taking the drink Conner gave her, she sipped it, enjoying the taste and the coolness calming her throat after talking so long. It seemed that he and the bar had a very large following. It was an easy piece to write, in fact, she could have it done by tonight and sent off. That was if she wanted to leave right away. Something called to her in this little town, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city she had grown up in. Connor wasn’t a bad way to spend the night either. It had been a while since she had been with anyone, even though she was with Doyle not that long ago. The sexual draw just wasn’t there, but Connor, now she could almost see herself getting tangled up in the sheets with him and not coming up for air for a long time. Too bad he was just a playboy type and not one to stay long term. Maybe that was just what she needed. Some way to let off all the stress and drama that came with her job.
* Her phone buzzed indicating she had a text. Pulling it out, she felt her once happy mood crumble as the message was from Doyle asking when she was coming back and to have drinks when she returned, again. Damn it, couldn’t she just get a break for at least a weekend?
* “Boyfriend bugging you about being away from home?” He asked, bumping her shoulder playfully as he sat next to her on an empty bar stool.
* “No, I mean, shit I don’t know. He’s not my boyfriend, well he was, I guess it’s complicated. Anyway, so yea.” She let her statement float away while taking a large drink of her beer, begging the liquor to do its job and dull her senses, even for a night.
* “Well, if it means anything, he’s an idiot. And you should totally send him a barfing emoji.” Turning to look at him, she laughed. What was he? She hadn’t used emojis in forever, not that she really had anyone to send them to.” He swiped her phone out of her hand, calling a number, his and then hung up. Watching what he was doing, she waited while he fiddled with his screen. Her phone buzzed, and a silly face popped up next to a beer. Oh my god, that was too funny.
* “See they can be funny and totally fit the situation. Now you send me one. I promise I won’t judge.” Wanting to play his little game, she hit the icon on her phone and scrolled looking at different ones before finding two people high fiving each other. This went back and forth for a while until something bothered her.
* “Hey, why do they have the eggplant? Who would send that?”
* “You’re so cute and innocent. Normally it is about someone’s cock.” She spat her beer and totally understood it now. That was too funny.
* “So, do we start referring to someone’s junk as an eggplant. Is that what you call yours?” feeling braver as time went on, she felt more comfortable with asking odd questions she normally wouldn’t.
* “Nah. I call mine the truth.” His eyes twinkled as he smirked.
* Huh, okay, she would bite this time. “The truth?”
* “Oh yeah, because the truth hurts.” At that, she busted up laughing. Holy shit this man was funny. “Oh, come on, now you can’t ever think of something with truth in it without thinking about my large cock.” She was not going to anymore. Yet he continued to go on with various movie references and titles. “I want the truth. You can’t handle the truth.” “The truth shall set you free.” Oh god. She was laughing so hard at this point, she had to pee. Excusing herself, she went to freshen up. Quickly as she could, she went back to the bar, only to see her seat was taken by a beautiful raven-haired woman, with a perfect body and leaning on Connor. He was smiling brightly at her, calling for a drink from Jett. She hadn’t been gone that long. Guess he was just like she thought, a playboy. All about the beer and some babes. Only she was a pawn floating around trying to be something she wasn’t, writing a story about his place. Fine. She didn’t need to stay where she wasn’t really wanted. Taking some money out of her wallet, she put it on the end of the bar, away from Connor, nodding to Jett and walked out the door, avoiding getting seen.
* She was going to finish the story, drive home, and go back to where things were normal. Where she was normal. Boring for sure, but normal, whatever that meant anymore.

a look at ‘A Far Cry from Home’ by Peri Elizabeth Scott #Contemporary #EroticEomance @evernightpub

Regan Ferguson knows little past running The Inn, her home
since her adoption. Again orphaned, she’s dealt another blow. Her father never
repaid a loan, the recipient being Maddox Ferguson, her newfound, sexy cousin.
Intrigued by the woman he never knew existed, Maddox is awed
by her tenacity and determination to continue with The Inn. He makes her a loan
to give her the opportunity to learn for herself how impossible the task,
rather than personally destroying any chance to explore the connection between
them. However, he quietly lines up potential buyers as a fallback plan.
Regan eventually has that epiphany, only to accidentally
determine Maddox’s plan. Feeling betrayed and confused, she secretly signs the
buyout and hits the road with her cat, Oscar.
Maddox follows, and without The Inn between them they find
their happily ever after—Regan learns that home is wherever her heart is.
Excerpt:
She stuck out her hand, and he fancied she saw it as an olive branch. The hostility she’d initially projected was gone, and he took the opportunity to encroach into her space. Clasping her small, work-roughened hand in his much larger one, a frisson of energy sparked between them and he felt her quiver.

Fascinated, he watched as she strove to regain her composure, while he allowed his desire to show. Staring into her eyes, the pale-blue of her irises consumed by the dilation of her pupils, he read her need. He tugged her to his chest, the clean smell of soap and water, and something uniquely Regan, wafting from her.

Her head tipped back and he dropped his mouth down on hers, the immediate connection hardening his flesh to the point of pain. She relaxed into his hold and he tasted her with desperate intent. His fingers wove through the silky mass of her hair, holding her steady, and she moaned deep in her throat. She pressed closer, her arms wreathing around his neck.

He somehow brought it to a close, over long before he wanted it to be, but his conscience pricked hard. He’d promised her the time and money to bring The Inn up to snuff, somehow unable to resist. And now he’d honor his commitment, intuiting the importance of this woman determining her own destiny. Not a fling, not like with his other women.

His libido jeered and prodded at him but knew to allow nature to take its course. Wherever this connection with Regan was going, he wouldn’t hurry nor derail it.

As they both caught their breath, he gently set her away from him, his hands on her lithe waist, until she steadied on her stool. “I normally don’t seal business deals with a kiss,” he said, aware his tone held a certain rasp. Clearing his throat, he continued, “It’s been a … momentous day.”

Her slender throat working in a swallow, she said, “I’ve never sealed a business deal before.”

He knew she wasn’t experienced and doubted she kissed every man she’d just met with fervor and without meaning anything by it. Aching for her, he clamped down on his physical need and did his best to appear suave and unruffled. “We have a deal, Regan. I’ll bring my things in and get settled while you get organized. You’ll need a material list, among other things.”

Visibly drawing her composure around her like flexible armor, she slipped from the stool and turned her back on him, clearing away the dishes on the island. “Sounds good. I’ll just tidy up and then sit down with pen and paper. Lists are good.”

Holding hard on to his own equanimity, he nodded and headed out for his car. Some fresh air would clear his head and cool him down.

A look into Diamond in the Rough in the Down and Dirty anthology

~ Blurb ~

A hidden gem…

* Just the right amount of friction, and a chance encounter, and a lot of heat sparks will change them both. Will they be able see past their individual goals in order to claim a once in a lifetime prize?

~ Excerpt ~

* Ethan tipped his hat, bowing to her. “Thank you for the dance,” he rumbled.
* “Yeah! Whoohoo! That’s what I’m talking about!” Dana shouted from the sidelines.
* “Oh, my god,” Christina said on a laugh, bending at the waist, feeling slightly embarrassed.
* She’s Everything, by Brad Paisley, started playing and couples moved their way back onto the dance floor. “May I have another?” he asked her, holding out his hand.
* “If you don’t dance with him, I will!” Dana shouted again. Christina waved at her friend, then took Ethan’s hand.
* He pulled her in close, so close that their bodies were touching. Her hands automatically went to his chest as his arms wrapped around her waist. He moved slowly, looking down at her the entire time. His stare was so intense that Christina couldn’t hold it, so she laid her head on his chest. Even though she’d only just met him, she was comfortable being this close to him. Right then, he wasn’t a complete stranger, but someone she’d known forever. She knew all she needed to know about him. She could hear him singing low, the timbre rumbling in his chest. She could hear his heart beating and she could smell him. Lord, she could smell him. Soap and man. Her insides turned to mush and really, she just wanted to take him in the back and jump his bones.
* Why couldn’t she? Christina was leaving the next day. It wasn’t like she was going to see him again. Ignoring the pang in her heart, she lifted her head to look up at him. He was still staring down at her. His full lips curled into a small smile, exposing a dimple in his left cheek. She rose up on her toes, pulling his head down. Ethan tipped his hat, covering both of their faces, and then he kissed her.
* His lips touched hers and a slow burn spread throughout her body. Every nerve ending in was alive and firing at the same time. His kiss was soft and gentle, teasing her until she sucked his lower lip into her mouth. He moaned softly, cupped her cheek in his hand, and then pushed his tongue into her mouth. Christina could taste the faint hint of whiskey on him, but more than that was his taste. She twisted her fingers in the back of his too-long hair, holding him closer to her. When he broke the kiss, she wanted to scream, but she realized the song had ended. She knew what she was thinking was a bad idea, yet she was going to do it anyway.

****

* Ethan could have kissed her forever, he decided as he looked down into her stormy grey eyes. “Thank you,” he said.
* Christina smiled mischievously at him and took his hand. “Come with me,” she commanded.
* He would have followed her anywhere.
* She led him toward the back, past the restrooms and into a darkened hallway. “Where are we going?” he asked.
* “Right here,” she said, pushing him against the wall. She grabbed his face and pulled him down for another kiss. Ethan was all too happy to oblige.
* She tasted of lemon but underneath that was the sweetest wine. Sucking on her tongue, he savored her taste, holding her hips still. She broke the kiss and began kissing his neck. Ethan’s head tipped back and a moan escaped him. She was going to kill him. He knew it. She continued her sweet torture and he knew he would never survive it.
* Unable to take it anymore, he switched their positions so she was against the wall. She looked up at him with fire in her eyes and he knew he was right. Her lips were swollen and wet and he couldn’t resist another taste. But this time, he didn’t stay there. He kissed his way along her jaw to her neck, sucking and nibbling down to her collar bone.
* “Not here,” she said.
* Ethan realized that they were getting into it pretty heavy and even though they were hidden, anyone could come walking by. They were in public. In a bar. Which brought on another thought. “How much have you had to drink?” he asked.
* She raised a brow at him. “Seriously?”
* Ethan shook his head. “Look, there’s nothing I want more than to throw you in my truck, take you back to my hotel, and make you scream my name all night. But I can’t if you’re drunk. So please, tell me; how much have you had to drink?”
* “What makes you think I want to go with you?” she asked, straightening her spine and brushing her skirt down. “Just so you know, I’ve had one shot and a half a beer. But no worries, this was a bad idea anyway.”
* “Wait,” he said when she turned to walk away. “I just wanted to make sure you weren’t going to regret it in the morning.”
* “I don’t do regrets.” She put her hands on her hips. “Now, are you gonna throw me in that truck or not?”
* Ethan didn’t need any more encouragement. He leaned down and scooped her up, tossing her over his shoulder then walked out of the bar caveman style.
