* Romanian unification is on the horizon and the spirited Crown Princess of Carpathia, Caroline, would prefer to ride horses and archery to embroidery and dancing. Complicating her life is her recent discovery that she’s a witch.
* Prince Stefan Sigmaringen travels to Carpathia to meet Caroline. He discovers he has much in common with her. He also learns that a strange man, Timon, has an unnatural interest in him.
* Upon Stefan’s engagement, he overhears his mother confessing to a horrible secret – she cursed him in order to conceive him and Stefan will become a werewolf when he turns eighteen. There is a condition to overcome the curse, but it will require Stefan to draw on all his inner strength and Caroline, her courage. Can they break the foul enchantment and secure their future or will Stefan give himself over to the lupine curse that haunts his family?

~ Excerpt ~

* He ground his teeth and tugged her so close her lips crushed against his. His manhood pressed her thigh, and it thrilled her. Yet she was afraid. Is this how it was for a married couple? This insatiable craving that couldn’t be tamed?
* A howl broke through the night air, shattering the intensity of the moment.
* Stefan pushed Caroline to the ground and covered her with his body. His lips brushed her ear. “Use your senses.”
* She nodded.
* Wood cracked, and she glanced at the old wooden gate. The hinges snapped, and the door flew off its frame into the courtyard. Two men walked through, their yellow eyes giving away their presence in twilight’s gray shadows.
* Juris and Timon.
* “Damn,” Stefan muttered. He stood, fisting his hands. “Run, Caroline.”
* She sat up and adjusted her dress, not prepared to abandon the man who had given her such pleasure. A powerful connection existed between her and Stefan. She wouldn’t turn and run at the first sight of danger.
* “Feeling a little lusty, are we? So sorry to interrupt.” Timon’s voice was edged in steel. “Juris wants to watch.”
* Thank God Caroline had nistal root with her. She plunged a hand into her pocket, pulled out a small pouch, and dug out some of the powder. She threw it on the ground. “Flame to life!”
* A bright light rose in the air and quickly flamed out. No way could Michael miss it. They needed his help.
* Stefan pounced on Juris, and the two of them tumbled over each other. Caroline was unsure what to do next. Timon crossed his arms as Stefan and Juris fought. Juris forcefully shoved Stefan away, and he struck his head on the wooden barrier. His eyes glazed over.

Welcome to Emelle Gamble w/ #RomanticSuspense #book ‘The Second Man’ @EmelleGamble @GoddessFish

nbtm_tourbanner_thesecondman

Today we have author Emelle Gamble visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
mediakit_authorphoto_thesecondman

* Emelle Gamble became a writer at an early age. At six years old, she was bursting with the requisite childhood stories of introspection, and this itch to tell tales evolved into bad teen poetry and tortured short works that, thankfully, never saw the light of day, or an editor’s red pen.
* She took her first stab at writing a novel in an adult education class in Mobile, Alabama when her kids were in bed for the night. As ‘M.L. Gamble,’ she published several romantic suspense novels with Harlequin Intrigue. She now publishes novels of Ordinary Women in Extraordinary Situations with SoulMate Publishing and Posh Publishing …works ranging from women’s fiction to thrillers and romantic suspense.
* Always intrigued by the words ‘what if’, Gamble’s books feature an ordinary woman confronted with an extraordinary situation. Emelle celebrates the adventurous spirit of readers, and hopes each will enjoy the exciting and surprising journeys her characters take.
* Emelle lives in suburban Washington D.C. with her hero of thirty years, Philip, and two orange cats, Lucy and Bella. Like all good villains, the cats claim to have their reasons for misbehaving. Her children are happily launched on their own and are both contributing great things to society, their mother’s fondest wish.
* Emelle welcomes any reader interested in emailing her and hopes they will visit her website, or her Author Emelle Gamble FaceBook page.

Today Emelle Gamble will be talking about the first book she read that had a big impact on her.
* This is a really difficult question to answer, and I imagine it is for many readers and probably all writers.
* I’ll give you a ‘stages of life’ answer.
* When I was a child, I loved to read from as early as I can imagine. Board books, then chapter books, then mysteries. Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden, in particular. I loved all stories of trying to find your way home, or trying to find out who the bad guy was.
* Once I was in middle school, I would literally inhale any kind of historical fiction that involved British nobility. I loved court intrigue and unrequited love affairs, and the horses. Yes, I loved the horses in those books, and of course the stable boys.
* In high school I had fabulous English teachers that gave me books to read that still make me tremble – The Scarlet Letter. The Great Gatsby. The Confessions of Nat Turner, a book which I returned to the Librarian (who let me check it out even though it was on the ‘teacher’s only’ shelf) and begged her to tell me it really wasn’t based on true events.
* As a mom with two little kids, I gravitated to romantic suspense (honorable men and spunky women) and best sellers, always with a love of mystery. I wanted books to absorb, entertain, and end with a resolution that, because of smart sleuthing and big hearts, the world was a better place than at the beginning.
* Now I read everything. Non-fiction books that keep me up at night worrying, fiction that is provocative, novels that impress me, mysteries that rarely make me feel better about anything. HA!
* But to get back to our blog hostess’s question – the first book that had a big impact? As an adult, one of the first novels that rocked my world was The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher.
* It is a warm family saga about a woman with a bohemian upbringing and a lost true love. A woman who did what was expected of her, was ‘happily’ married and gave birth to three children, but always had a secret life inside her heart. This heroine, Penelope, suffered great losses during World War II, and afterwards, but stayed optimistic. She loved each of her children equally, but differently. Her life often surprised – but never defeated – her.
* This book showed the reader in me how complicated, challenging, heartbreaking and wonderful family life is. And it taught the writer in me that characters did not have to be all good or all bad in commercial fiction to be compelling. It is one of the few books I own that I have re-read multiple times, and I realized while writing this post that it contains many of those elements I always loved as a reader. Finding your way home. Solving a mystery. Intrigue and heartbreak. What a great book. If you haven’t read it, do!

* Jill Farrell’s college reunion is coming up, but she wants no part of it. The man she once loved, Swedish exchange student Max Kallstrom, is rumored to be attending, but that doesn’t tempt her as Max disappeared from her life the night before the graduation, and has never been heard from since.
* When her ex-husband, Andrew Denton, knocks on her door and announces he wants to make nice, and, “oh, by the way, one of their class alumni might be a murderer”, Jill’s resolve to avoid the event hardens.
* Jill shuts Andrew’s efforts to reconnect down, and tries to put Max out of her mind. And that’s that, until a second man knocks on her door, and the emotions of a time long ago overtakes her. Max Kallstrom tells Jill she’s the reason he has come to California. He asks her to please let him explain why she hasn’t heard from him for fifteen long years.
* She’s willing to listen to what he has to say, but immediately realizes that her memories must guide her through a wrenching and dangerous few days. While her heart remembers a handsome young lover, she and her classmates are all different people now, and the reality of a murdered friend proves she can’t trust everyone.
* What’s not so clear is if she should trust anyone . . . especially Max Kallstrom.

~ Excerpt ~

* Was that a noise in the garage?
* The sound of muted rustling did not fit the normal night sounds. She took a step closer to the garage exit opposite the front door. Slowly she leaned forward to listen, but all was quiet.
* Tell me I didn’t forget to close the garage again. She visualized coming in from errands earlier, but could not remember if she had hit the button before she stepped inside.
* She set her laptop and paperwork on the kitchen table, turned on the teakettle, and headed resolutely back to the foyer. I’ll open it a crack, confirm everything is closed properly, and then sit down and get to work.
* She turned the knob and pushed the door open, and flipped the light switch. Her car was parked, and the garage was closed. But there was a cardboard box sitting on car’s passenger side trunk.
* The top was open and several books were piled next to it.
* “What the devil?” She stepped down onto the concrete and headed for the box.
* “Hello, Jill,” the killer said.
* She yelped and grabbed her throat.
* A man rose from the crouch he was in beside the washing machine. He grabbed Jill with one hand, and aimed a gun at her head with his other. “Stand still and be quiet. I won’t hurt you unless you scream.”
* Shock and bitter anger nearly brought her to her knees as she registered who he was, and what a massive betrayal he had pulled off. Furious, she slapped at the gun and twisted out of the man’s grasp, and turned to run.
* Before she completely filled her lungs with air to scream, his pistol cracked against her skull and knocked her to her knees.
* There was black, and then nothing.

Paranormal Bar & Grill Tour #SuperNatural #books #Halloween @GoddessFish

mbb_tourbanner_halloweentour

Today we have authors Craig Boyack, Mae Clair, Sandra Cox, Harmony Kent, and Staci Troilo visiting on their Paranormal Bar & Grill Tour. Welcome!

* October starts out warm and sunny, but this is the month when everything changes. Mornings grow frosty, leaves change colors, and the breeze takes on a bite.
* Summer dies.
* It’s a time for harvest celebrations. A boy loans a girl his coat. She snuggles a little closer and takes his hand. A riot of autumn splendor accompanies the farmer’s market where they stroll.
* But the vibrancy of daylight doesn’t compare to the darkness of night. Is that chill on your neck the breeze or something else?
* October night
* You walk a tad faster and look over your shoulder. The trees creak when the wind whips through their branches—at least, you hope that noise came from the undulating bows.
* You check under the bed and inside the closet before climbing under the covers. Sleep doesn’t come easy. The old house groans its complaints, and the night magnifies every innocuous noise until terror paralyzes you—because you know nefarious things go bump in the night.
* Welcome to the Paranormal Bar & Grille Blog Tour… where you can rub elbows with everyone from a gargoyle or vampire, to a creature from urban legend, or the ghostly realms of myth. Step up to the bar, grab a booth. You never know what’s on the menu, or if you might end up there yourself.
* Sound like your kind of hangout? Then you’ve come to the right place. We’re a group of five authors who love nothing more than to trigger the chill that crawls up your back, the nervous glance tossed over your shoulder. We invite you to discover outstanding books and check out our awesome tour prizes.
* Just be careful of what the bartender serves you. That heady brew may not be a beer, and witches can’t be trusted to provide effective antidotes.

What would you like to tell readers about yourselves?
mediakit_authorphoto_craigboyackCraig Boyack – Just a fiction writer, trying to reach the world.
* Craig came to fiction writing later in life than most authors. He always had to write, to one degree or another as part of various jobs. Early one winter morning, he conquered the Internet and didn’t feel like shoveling the sidewalk until the sun came up. He tried a few pages of fiction and got hooked.
* Craig doesn’t like limitations and calls himself a writer of speculative fiction. It’s a broad field, but he limits himself to science fiction, paranormal, and a bit of fantasy. He has eight published works—six novels and two collections of short stories.

Mae Clair – Mystery & Suspense…with a dash of Myth & Romance
* Genres: Mystery, Psychological Thrillers, Supernatural Suspense, Romantic Suspense
* Quirky fact I don’t want anyone to know: (or maybe I do)….I saw a UFO when I was six. Probably why I write some of the stuff I do. ~ooOOoo~
* They say everyone has a story to tell.
* I wrote my first childish “masterpiece” at six and was immediately bitten by the writing bug. Since then, I’ve been composing nonstop, and have dabbled in multiple genres over the years, writing everything from fantasy, westerns, and horror to inspirational fiction, romance, and sci-fi. It took me a while to find my niche, but I’ve settled comfortably into the mystery/suspense genre (with a just a dash of romance tossed in).
* Several of my earlier works have strong romantic themes, but all are infused with threads of mystery. I have a passion for folklore, myth, and urban legends and that attraction often factors into my writing. You’ll find threads of archaic tales and mysterious places woven throughout many of my novels.
* I am a member of the International Thriller Writers and a past president of the Central Pennsylvania Writer’s Organization. If I’m not camped out at my keyboard or have my nose buried in a book, I’m likely looking up blurry images of cryptids on Google, sorting through vintage photographs or imagining life as a cat.

Sandra Cox – Living life. Writing fantasy.
* Sandra writes YA Fantasy, Paranormal and Historical Romance, and Metaphysical Nonfiction. She lives in sunny North Carolina with her husband, a brood of critters and an occasional foster cat. Although shopping is high on the list, her greatest pleasure is sitting on her screened in porch, listening to the birds, sipping coffee or a latte and enjoying a good book. She’s a vegetarian and a Muay Thai enthusiast.

Harmony Kent – The author who gets write into your head.
* Genres: Multi-genre
* Quirky Fact I don’t want anyone to know: Wrote the entirety of The Glade while listening to the Twilight movie soundtrack. And she’s not mentioning the glass of white (ahem) ‘grape juice’ that kept finding its way to her computer station.
* Harmony Kent is famous for her laughter, and has made quite the name for herself … she’s also, um, a writer … and fairly well known for that too. She’s even won a few awards. Harmony lives in rural Cornwall with her ever-present sense of humour and quirky neighbours and refuses to admit to her age.
* If you catch her at work, you’ll see that she also offers editing, proof reading, manuscript appraisal, and beta reading services. Not to mention being passionate about supporting her fellow authors.

Staci Troilo – Writing Relationship Wrongs.
* Genres: Romance, Suspense, Paranormal, Mystery, and Mainstream
* Quirky fact I don’t want anyone to know: The socks in my sock drawer and the books on my shelf are arranged in rainbow order.
* I’ve always loved fiction, ever since my parents read me fairy tales when I was little. Today, my interests are much more eclectic. I love getting lost in sci-fi battles, fantasy realms, horror worlds, suspenseful intrigues, and romantic entanglements.
* As goes my reading, so goes my writing. I can’t pick a single genre to focus on, so I don’t even try. I’m proud to say I’m a multi-genre author.
* When I’m not reading or writing, I’m spending time with family and friends, possibly cooking for them, or maybe enjoying an afternoon in the pool. To learn more about me, visit me at my website or connect with me on social media.

Now a taste of one of the books…

mediakit_bookcover_athousandyesteryears

~ Blurb ~

“Masterful, bone-chilling fiction…one intense thriller. A Thousand Yesteryears will keep you guessing, gasping and turning the pages for more.” — New York Times bestselling author Kevin O’Brien
* Behind a legend lies the truth…
* As a child, Eve Parrish lost her father and her best friend, Maggie Flynn, in a tragic bridge collapse. Fifteen years later, she returns to Point Pleasant to settle her deceased aunt’s estate. Though much has changed about the once thriving river community, the ghost of tragedy still weighs heavily on the town, as do rumors and sightings of the Mothman, a local legend. When Eve uncovers startling information about her aunt’s death, that legend is in danger of becoming all too real . . .
* Caden Flynn is one of the few lucky survivors of the bridge collapse but blames himself for coercing his younger sister out that night. He’s carried that guilt for fifteen years, unaware of darker currents haunting the town. It isn’t long before Eve’s arrival unravels an old secret—one that places her and Caden in the crosshairs of a deadly killer . . .

~ Excerpt ~

* “The phone might be on the fritz,” Eve said as she carried Doreen Sue’s glass to the sink. “I’ve been getting a lot of strange calls with screeches and clicks. I had the phone company check it out, but they couldn’t find anything wrong with the line.” Whatever their verdict, she still wasn’t convinced the odd calls weren’t the fault of an electronic malfunction.
* “Screeches and clicks?” Doreen Sue paused mid-dial, pressing the receiver to her chest. “I’ve heard that happens sometimes when a family member dies.”
* Eve rinsed the glass with water, then set it in the drain board to be washed later. Something cold slithered down her back. “Excuse me?”
* “Your Aunt Rosie.” Doreen Sue bobbed her head as if the answer was obvious. “She might be trying to communicate with you.”
* Eve started to laugh, then quelled the instinctive reaction when she noted Doreen Sue’s expression. The woman wasn’t joking.
* “Spirits often try to converse through electricity and everyday instruments like TVs, lights, and phones. I know it sounds silly, but I follow all of that stuff…horoscopes, psychics, UFO theories.” A wave of her hand said she took only half of it seriously. “I’ve seen some strange things around here, especially by the TNT. I’ve never seen the Mothman, but I remember reading an article about a medium who was convinced her dead husband tried to communicate with her through phone calls. She heard things like amplifier feedback, insect noises, and strange clicks whenever she answered the phone.”
* Eve felt her face drain of color. After talking to a disembodied “thing” in an igloo at the TNT, she should have no problem believing her dead aunt was reaching out to her. She’d sat in the living room only days after arriving and voiced that wish aloud. Aunt Rosie, I wish I understood what was going on. I wish there was some way you could talk to me. The phone calls had started not long afterward. Fluke or answer to her request?
