* He’s tall, dark, handsome and athletic and just that little bit mysterious. Star of the Saint’s team, The Russian has had a high profile relationship with a Hollywood director’s daughter for years and now that it is over, he just wants to focus on his sporting career. Due to injury, Carla Brooker’s professional sporting career as a basketballer with the Suns is about to come to an end, but not before she needs a date for her team’s gala ball night. When these two sporting hotshots meet, they are more than a good fit, they are made for each other … if they can just file away their history and find a way to be together.

* The doors opened and a few of the flight attendants came out, along with a handful of passengers. Buzz was out first and greeted us. He wrapped an arm around Laura and gave me a wink as they left, as though all was forgiven for his prank. Some of the Saints’ crew followed, then the coach, and Lucas who gave Mia a wave and pointed in the direction of the journos. She nodded, knowing he had to give a quick interview first.
* Tomás came into sight, greeted us all and left with Alice, and then Nik and The Russian appeared. The Russian’s eyes scanned the area and found mine, and he gave me a smile that would launch ships. He walked towards me, threw his bag over his shoulder and wrapped his spare arm around me, pressing me hard to him, our lips locked. It was so healing, his lips on mine, his skin against mine, just the feel of his strong body encompassing me, and he didn’t stop kissing me. I couldn’t believe it, in front of his teammates and everything!
* “Geez, not in public you two, cut it out,” Lucas teased, coming over and giving Mia a showy kiss.
* “Get a room, Russian,” Nik added as Sasha threw herself at him, and then we heard the sound of flashes and The Russian released me just a few inches, enough to draw a breath.
* “So needed that,” he said. “Hello, Brooker.”
* “Hello Russian,” I grinned up at him, admiring his dark eyes and beautiful face. He looked exhausted.
* “We need to get home immediately,” The Russian said, slightly breathless. “Let’s go.”
* He released me only enough so I could walk, tucking me into his body, ignoring the flashes of cameras. When we got to my car, he threw his bag in the back seat and sat back while I drove, annoying me by rubbing his hand over my leg, and anywhere else he could get access to before I hit him away for being distracting. We hardly spoke, we just wanted to be together, to be near each other.
* The Russian hustled me straight into my bedroom, closing my bedroom door with his foot and knocking me onto the bed. When we were settled, he stopped and placed his forehead on mine.

* It was beautiful inside. The space quaint, low lighting, enough ambience to make a lucrative business deal or extend a marriage proposal. Thanks to Troy making reservations, we were seated right away in a cozy booth for two. Sean placed a marketing folder on the table next to his place setting. “I’m looking forward to talking about what we can do for your company.” He said. His eyes were naturally a darker brown in this low lighting. I smiled, thankful for the distraction of the waiter.
* “Would you care for some wine?” The waiter asked pleasantly.
* “None for me, thank you.” I replied.
* “I’ll take a glass of your best red wine.” Sean responded.
* “Very good sir.”
* Sean jumped right in. “Did Alex talk to you about all of our services or did he just focus on one aspect of what we do, like print advertising?”
* “Well, I actually did not tell you the whole truth about Alex and I.”
* Sean perked up to listen.
* “I do own a private investigation firm, but I never met Alex through your company.” The waiter returned with Sean’s glass of wine and sparkling water for me. We both ordered their chef’s special pasta with a salad.
* “Oh.” Sean thought for a moment.
* “But, tell me. What services do you have?” I asked. I actually did want to know.
* Until dinner arrived, Sean presented all of the details that were included in the marketing folder that he had brought. He pitched ways to expose my business from print advertising, to social media strategies. “Are you interested in pursuing any of these marketing approaches?” He asked, knowing that he was one of the best salesmen on the Brown & Edwards sales team.
* Taking a look over all of the amazing food that was just placed on our table, I also considered the marketing services that Sean had presented. “Let me think about it.” I responded.
* “You had the same hesitation when we met the other day. What exactly are you thinking about?” He returned like a true salesman.

Welcome to Gina Conkle w/ #ContemporaryRomance ‘Waiting for a Girl Like You’ @ginaconkle @GoddessFish

Today we have author Gina Conkle visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?

* Gina Conkle writes Viking and Georgian Romance with a new dip into hot Contemporary Romance. She grew up in southern California and despite all that sunshine, Gina loves books over beaches and stone castles over sand castles. Now she lives in Michigan with her favorite alpha male, Brian, and their two sons where she’s known to occasionally garden and cook.

Today Gina Conkle will be talking about {how she/he handles balancing life and writing — how she/he became a writer and what inspired her/him in regard to the story she’s/he’s promoting — What sparked the idea for the story/series? — What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?}.
* I hope you’ll let me take this in three stages. When I was little girl, I read the book Corduroy by Don Freeman. I checked it out of the library multiple times when I was in first grade. Something about the little girl’s tender heart for the bear with a missing button grabbed me. I loved the miniature bed she made for Corduroy and how she loved him.
* When I was in fifth grade, I devoured Gone with the Wind. That book was pivotal because that’s when I knew I wanted to write books.
* As a teenager, my first adult romance was Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I’ve read the story so many times! It remains a top favorite. I have it in print and ebook format (Kindle and Nook).
* You can tell…I’m partial to history. I read a lot of non-fiction, contemporary romance of all subgenres, and historical romance.
* Thanks for hosting me on your blog!

Anything But Safe
* Hot sun beat down on the rest of the world. It was August. Standing under the pepper tree, AJ was a tall, cool drink of water. Stained coveralls didn’t put her off nor did his tattoo and the rough cadence of his speech. Under the gruff exterior was a real man with a good heart. He visually devoured her every time they’d crossed paths around town, and last night was no exception. But, could she be content with a sex only fling?
* “Well, that’s a relief.” Faint sarcasm edged his last word.
* “What is?”
* His steady gaze never wavered. “I thought you might be going in a different direction.”
* She cocked her head. “Did you think I was about to give you the ‘let’s be friends’ talk?”
* “I thought you were about to give me the ‘let’s hook up for sex only’ talk.”
* “Oh AJ,” she said around hiccups of laughter. Her cheeks burned. She shook her head, a little dazed. “I…I don’t know what to say to that.”
* “It’s not the first time a woman like you propositioned me.”
* Eyes rounding, she laughed at the absurdity. “I’m not propositioning you.”
* “Good because my answer would be no.”
* She’d come for lunch and conversation of the talking variety. A kiss or two was more than welcome, but they needed to slow down, let things simmer. AJ’s forbidding frown told her some of Hidden Valley’s well-shod women had dallied with him, and he was having no more of it. The town was an eclectic mix of gated communities, small farm-to-table co-ops and wineries. A lot of working class people had lived here long before it was hip.
* Hurt bloomed in her chest at the idea of any woman taking advantage of AJ’s goodness. Or his body. His past was likely more colorful than hers, but his flat out refusal to hook up intrigued her. He’d messed around in the past. What made him change his mind?
